"the EML program is powerful"
The EML program is powerful because it unlocks your knowledge about so many things...I really liked the way the program builds on itself. The first semester is all about understanding yourself, then it builds to understanding teams, then understanding organizations, and finally understanding systems.

"the Price EML program unlocked a new level of focus, discipline, and capacity in becoming my best whole self"
As Vice President of Finance at Blue Shield of California, I needed to take the next step in being a more effective and complete leader. The Price EML program unlocked a new level of focus, discipline, and capacity in becoming my best whole self, as a professional, a husband, a father and a member of my community. If you are looking for a catalyst for both professional and personal growth, this is the best investment you will ever make.
"how to lead across sectors, was priceless"
Despite a professional tenure of more than three decades in the public safety and crisis management arena, I found the EML experience to be invaluable in providing me with perspectives and capabilities that I could apply to myself and my work. Currently, I lead the Homeland Security Advisory Council in Los Angeles, where we work as a collaborating and coordinating bridge across the public, private and civic sectors. What EML taught me about myself, and how to lead across sectors, was priceless.
"Price’s EML program exceeded my expectations and nurtured my development as a leader"
As Curator of the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live, Los Angeles’ only music museum, my role is to conceptualize and develop exhibitions that visitors around the country can enjoy. Price’s EML program exceeded my expectations and nurtured my development as a leader through curricula and personal mentoring by my instructors. The growth I have experienced is invaluable and I would encourage any graduate student looking for a life-changing experience to consider this program.

"if we don't put ourselves in positions to try new things, we're never going to achieve those things."
Don't be afraid to try. In one of my many EML readings, I came upon a quote saying, 'There is no success without failures. And there's no learning without mistakes.' So if we don't put ourselves in positions to try new things, we're never going to achieve those things.

"EML delivered"
EML is a program that helps leaders learn, grow and reflect on their leadership. One of the big takeaways was getting comfortable being uncomfortable; it is simple and profound. When I entered the program, I wanted to challenge myself and learn from faculty and peers in different disciplines. I wanted to grow personally, which would help me become a better leader...EML delivered.
"I've now become a teacher. And so that to me is very powerful"
I've been able to have SWOT analysis sessions at work, organizational development sessions. I actually participated in the leadership formula program for my organization. Because essentially what this program has allowed me to do is actually be a student but actually
"This program really unearthed leadership."
This program really unearthed leadership. It took it from a personal level and focused on the individual, the leader as an individual. It then moved beyond that and looked at the leader and his role in dealing with groups. And then moving higher to the level of organizations and then finally it brought it together in the final cohort class where it looked at intersectoral issues of leadership and how individuals can help shape those relationships.

The tools I got and the information I had through the EML program has helped me and continues to help me in the role I've had the last 18 months.
"I never dreamed that we would have that much expertise in one room."
From the first day to the end of the program I felt like I was where I was supposed to be. There was just a great feeling among all of us, a great deal of respect. We had folks in our program from all walks of life: we had folks from the military, from private business, from nonprofit, and I never dreamed that we would have that much expertise in one room.
"it made me a more effective leader on a day-to-day basis"
It enabled me to be, I think, a more effective leader because it increased my confidence level, especially in leadership apart from a crisis situation. I was very familiar leading under those circumstances, but I think it made me a more effective leader on a day-to-day basis with my people as well.

The Price School EML Program provided me with the tools and strategies essential to becoming a more effective, more inclusive leader. The program encouraged me to “be comfortable being uncom-fortable,” and push past self-imposed limitations to accomplish goals I didn’t think were possible. The lessons learned have compelled me to become a better version of myself and through that, assist others in breaking their own barriers and realize their potential.

"EML has caused me to see leadership not as a subject, not as something confined into the workplace, but me as a person on the path of self-improvement."
There's always lessons to be learned; and I didn't see leadership that way prior to EML. EML has caused me to see leadership not as a subject, not as something confined into the workplace, but me as a person on the path of self-improvement. It helped me in my marriage, it's helped me in my relationship with my family members. It's helped me in a lot of aspects, because if nothing else, it taught me to be mindful and actually be more in tune with what I bring to the dynamic when I'm interacting with people, and I didn't think that way before.

"the Price EML program provided me the foundation to leap to the next level of my professional life"
The Price EML program provided me the foundation to leap to the next level of my professional life in nonprofit and take on the hat of “Executive Director.” I learned how to practice adaptive leadership by understanding the difference between finding solutions and building sustainable change. I understand the key is to be able to frame the right questions to make lasting impact and change. Leadership is a dance where learning never stops.
"I love when I can apply things that I learn in the classroom right into the job."
I wanted to add new tools to my toolbox to help me move from being a manager, bureaucrat to really being a leader, someone who could articulate a vision and think strategically. The other reason I decided to come to the EML program at USC is because I wanted to surround myself with people who I thought who would probably be the best thinkers out there and I wanted to put myself in a situation where I could compete with them and see what that was like. So being able to come into the office Monday morning with a whole new set of tools in my toolbox was always something that I really appreciated. I love when I can apply things that I learn in the classroom right into the job.

"its practical because you can apply it real world"
There is two things that I would say that describes this program for me. The first was 'exceptional' in regards to the speakers, the education, the readings, materials, the assimilations, tools, and activities. That was phenomenal. The second thing I'd say is that its practical because you can apply it real world...And then you have the support system around you. You can call your peers. You can call the instructor. So if you go through the program with preconceived notions you may miss some things. But if you go in with an open mind, to be able to learn, do the readings, participate, engage yourself, I really believe that you'll get the most out of this program that you can probably get anywhere else because it is all about you. It is about what you put into is what you'll get out. I humbly believe that. And i've put in a lot and I think I got out a lot.
"for me it was transformational"
For me it was transformational in the sense that I had a great job and i was quite comfortable in my role and going through some of the courses in EML and discussing you know and internalizing and reflecting on some of those experiences i decided to really step outside my comfort zone and take a new career path. I've been able to apply a lot of the principles and skills we learned in the EML program as [ZipCar] is a brand new, very entrepreneurial venture. I had to hire all my own staff so it was really about using my core values my understanding of the type of organization I wanted to lead to recruit and find people that could help take my vision and drive it and make it successful here in Los Angeles.
The Executive Master of Leadership (EML) degree is intended for professionals with five or more years of management or leadership experience. The curriculum centers around three distinctive priorities: Leadership through core values; multidisciplinary approaches to problem-solving; and fostering connections across public, private, and nonprofit sectors.
